It didn't take long for the first upset in the Illinois high school football playoffs...7A favorite and second-seeded Wheaton Warrenville South (8-2) was upset by Downers Grove South 8-7 Friday night. In 4A, second-seeded Chicago Christian saw its season come to an end with a 35-21 loss to Bishop McNamara.

The Illinois high school football playoffs begin this weekend with a lot of eyes on the 4A bracket where Driscoll (7-2) will be seeking it's 8th straight state championship. Driscoll comes in as the 4th seed and could meet top-seeded Aurora Christian (9-0) in the state quarters.

By Jeff Fisher The High School Football Huddle Aurora Christian quarterback Jordan Roberts now owns another Illinois passing record. Roberts, who earlier this year took over as the state's all-time touchdown thrower, is now the state's leader in passing yardage. Friday night Roberts broke the record of 8,308 yards set last year by Rochester's Wil Lunt. Aurora Christian beat Wheaton Academy 34-19.
Elsewhere, the David vs. Goliath Battle between 8A St. Rita and 1A Hope Academy went to Goliath as St. Rita improved to 8-1 with a 49-0 shutout. It was the first time in Illinois history that two teams from the state's biggest and smallest classification had ever met on the gridiron.

It's never happened before in Illinois high school football history...a 1A school going up the ladder to face an 8A school. However, it will happen Friday night when 8A St. Rita, a school that began the year in national rankings, faces 1A Hope Academy.
