Illinois High School Football Huddle

As the regular season opens in Illinois today, one team that is absent from the high school football landscape is Driscoll Catholic, which at the end of the 2008-09 school year closed due to a lack of enrollment.
Today, the Chicago Tribune takes a look at what happened to all of the players from the program that won seven straight state titles from 2001 to 2007.
Today, I spoke with a friend, who's a former player at Driscoll, who tells me that Immaculate Conception is the big winner in transfers. His thought is because Driscoll was a 4A school, all of the transfers to IC will make the 2008 state champs from Elmhurst one of the best 2A teams around.
Although according to the Tribune report, the steal in the transfer sweepstakes was quarterback Nick Campanella, who chose arch-rival Montini.
