Boilingbrook Claims First-Ever 8A Title

Bolingbrook won its first-ever state football championship with a 21-17 win over Loyola in the 8A championship game Saturday night.

Junior quarterback Aaron Bailey ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns, plus threw for 140.  Loyola entered the game unbeaten in 13 games.

Rockford Boylan Wins Battle of Defending State Champs

The 2011 7A state championship goes to the 2010 6A state champs.

Rockford Boylan beat Wheaton Warrenville South 21-14 in a rare match-up between defending state champs.  Boylan's win denied WWS a three-peat.

Rockford Boylan now owns a 28-game win streak after back-to-back 14-0 seasons.

Prairie Ridge Captures First State Football Title

After back-to-back losses in the state semifinals, Prairie Ridge broke-though Saturday with a 35-14 win over Richwoods to capture the school's first-ever state football championship.

Prairie Ridge captured the 6A crown behind Jordan Getzelman, who rushed for 175 yards.  The Wolves' defense was also stellar, holding Kendrick Foster to 59 yards rushing.  Foster ended the season with 2,411 yards rushing.

Montini Gets Three-Peat

Less than 12 hours after Rochester's Wes Lunt set a new all-classes championship game passing record, Montini's John Rhode set a new one.

Rhode completed 29 of 45 passes for 587 yards and seven touchdowns in Montini's 70-45 5A championship game win over Joliet Catholic.   The Broncos have now won three straight state titles.

Nebraska-bound wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp, the state's all-time leading receiver, also establish a new all-classes receiving record with 331 yards (11 catches) and five touchdowns.  Rhode's 587 yards was just three yards short of the all-time single-game record of 590 set earlier this year by Lunt.

Joliet Catholic junior running back Ty Isaac was also busy re-writing the record book.  Isaac ran for 515 yards (6 touchdowns), an all-classes state championship game record.  Isaac ran for 376 yards in the first half. 

The two teams combined for 1,644 yards in total offense.

Rochester Wins 4A Title in Shootout with Richmond-Burton

Oklahoma State recruit Wes Lunt ended his high school career with a record-setting performance in the state's 4A championship game.

Lunt completed 31 of 39 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns to lead Rochester to a 42-39 defeat of Richmond-Burton.   The 506 yards was an all-classes state championship game record.  Zach Grant caught 13 of Lunt's completions for an all-classes receiving record of 259 yards.

Richmond-Burton used a solid ground attack to stay in the game.  Led by Jack Dechow (244 yards, 4 TDs), R-B rushed for 514 yards as a team, which set a 4A finals record.  Richmond-Burton didn't gain a yard through the air.

Aurora Christian Grabs School's First Championship

Aurora Christian head football coach Don Beebe has seen a lot in his career with the Buffalo Bills, but Friday 3A state championship should go on the top of his list of a great accomplishments.

Beebe and his team went from the school almost being closed over the summer to beating Mount Carmel 34-7 for the state title on Friday.

The Eagles were led by junior Brandon Mayes, who was stellar on both sides of the ball.  Mayes had 12 tackles, one interception, plus 62 yards rushing on just six carries.

Morrison Wins 2A Championships

Morrison captured its second Illinois high school football championship Friday with a 23-14 win over Casey-Westfield in the 2A title game.

Andy Shaver led Morrison with 100 yards on 19 carries, plus added a 27 yard field goal.

Morrison finishes with a 13-1 record, while Casey-Westfield ends 12-2.

Dakota Runs Past Tuscola for 1A Title

Dakota (12-2) running back Jake Apple set a state championship game rushing record to lead his school to a 41-27 win over Tuscola to win the Class 1A state championship.

Apple rushed for 373 yards (31 carries) and scored four touchdowns to lead the Indians back from a 14-0 first half deficit.  Apple, who is also a state wrestling champ, finished the season with 2,574 yards rushing.

Dakota now owns three state titles; all since 2005.
