Less than 12 hours after Rochester's Wes Lunt set a new all-classes championship game passing record, Montini's John Rhode set a new one.
Rhode completed 29 of 45 passes for 587 yards and seven touchdowns in Montini's 70-45 5A championship game win over Joliet Catholic. The Broncos have now won three straight state titles.
Nebraska-bound wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp, the state's all-time leading receiver, also establish a new all-classes receiving record with 331 yards (11 catches) and five touchdowns. Rhode's 587 yards was just three yards short of the all-time single-game record of 590 set earlier this year by Lunt.
Joliet Catholic junior running back Ty Isaac was also busy re-writing the record book. Isaac ran for 515 yards (6 touchdowns), an all-classes state championship game record. Isaac ran for 376 yards in the first half.
The two teams combined for 1,644 yards in total offense.
