Want to thank my friend RitaFootball on Twitter for the heads-up on what appears to be a very good high school football tripleheader Labor Day weekend in East. St. Louis.St. Rita is scheduled to play Jefferson City from Missouri in the middle game of the tripleheader that will also feature East. St. Louis and DeSmet, which made it Missouri's Class 6 semifinals last year. East St. Louis is expected to play a team from Florida, while DeSmet may play a team from Georgia in what is being billed as the "City of Champions Classic at East St. Louis".
Last season St. Rita won its sixth Prep Bowl championship, beating Chicago Public League championship Simeon 34-20. The Mustangs advanced to 7A quarterfinals where they were beaten by eventual state champ Wheaton Warrenville South.
Jefferson City advanced to the Class 6 quarterfinals last season where the Jays lost to DeSmet and finished with a 9-3 record. According to on-line reports, Jefferson City should be strong this year with a number of key starters back from last year's team.
