Mt. Carmel Escapes Thriller With Loyola

For the second straight week, Mt. Carmel survived a big scare. Last week, the Caravan needed a field goal to get by De La Salle, this week, it needed two overtimes to beat Loyola Academy 31-24.

This one saw the two teams battle to a scoreless draw in the first half. Then Mt. Carmel (7-0) took a 17-0 lead into the fourth quarter. That's when Loyola (5-2) quarterback Peter Badovinac rallied the troops with two touchdown passes to send the game into overtime.

Mt. Carmel won in in the second overtime on a 10-yard run by Edwin Williams, who rushed for 189-yards and two touchdowns on the day on just 18-carries. The Caravan defense then shutdown Badovinac during Loyola's second overtime possession...sacking him once and watching three passes fall incomplete.

Badovinac finished 28 of 48 passing for 308 yards.
